The front of the hat is adorned with \"flowers\" and bows of the same felt. There is a large bow at the top from which the flower stamens emerge. There is an elastic band attached to the inside to help keep the hat in a tilted position. Beautiful!! Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills. Label: NEW YORK CREATION The New York Dress Institute was formed in 1941 by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert as a joint venture between the clothing manufacturers of New York City & the ILGWU. The label was created by a group of well-known designers who wanted to remain anonymous & wanted to support the New York Creation label & keep it competitive with French styles of the era. The label is small, white and blue. Please keep in mind that you are buying a vintage hat, not new nor perfect! This is an authentic piece of fashion history!
